TL;DR
Medical Physicist (Radiation Oncology): Designing, evaluating, and delivering precise radiation treatment plans while ensuring patient and staff safety, with an accent on quality assurance, treatment planning, and regulatory compliance. Focus on implementing VMAT, SBRT, adaptive therapy, and other advanced radiation treatment techniques using Varian equipment and Eclipse TPS.

Location: Rockville, Maryland; primarily covering the Rockville clinic, with possible work across the Silver Spring clinic.

Salary: $208,039.38–$320,060.58 per year.

Maryland Oncology Hematology provides cancer care through oncology clinics across Maryland and DC.

What you will do

  • Perform routine quality assurance checks on linear accelerators, CT simulators, and treatment planning systems.
  • Develop and implement radiation treatment plans with radiation oncologists and dosimetrists.
  • Provide technical expertise for the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy.
  • Implement treatment techniques and technologies including VMAT, SBRT, and adaptive therapy.
  • Maintain treatment, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance records.
  • Train radiation therapy staff and collaborate with healthcare professionals to support patient care.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Medical Physics or a related field.
  • Board certification or eligibility in therapeutic medical physics from the ABR.
  • Experience working with Varian equipment and familiarity with Eclipse treatment planning systems.
  • Understanding of radiation safety principles and regulatory requirements, including NRC and state health department regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team, with willingness to pursue ongoing professional development.
