TL;DR
Assistant Critical Operations Manager (Data Center): Operating and maintaining electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and other mission-critical data center systems with an accent on availability, safety, preventative maintenance, and site efficiency. Focus on managing maintenance programs, technical procedures, vendor and project execution, compliance audits, and emergency response for reliable facility operations.

Location: Hillsboro, Oregon, United States; onsite data center operations. Must be eligible to work in the United States. Travel is none or less than 5%.

What you will do

  • Support the Critical Operations Manager in operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, base building, and other data center systems.
  • Implement site operations, safety, training, availability, communication, and knowledge programs.
  • Execute preventative and predictive maintenance, efficiency initiatives, capacity management, and outage-prevention activities.
  • Train and mentor junior staff, lead team meetings and 1:1 sessions, and ensure personnel are qualified for their duties.
  • Manage vendors, service contracts, procurement, billing, project execution, and site-level CapEx and OpEx budgeting.
  • Create and review technical procedures, manage internal and external audits, and provide customer support and on-call emergency response.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4–5 years of experience in data center or other mission-critical operations.
  • 3–5 years of experience managing facility preventative maintenance programs, vendors, and projects.
  • Expert understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAH, CRAC, STS, ATS, and pre-action systems.
  • Expert knowledge of NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and fire life safety compliance standards, plus data center commissioning and trending.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, database software, and the ability to learn CMS, EPMS, and BMS monitoring systems.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, pass comprehensive background and drug screening, and work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
