Refinery Economist and LP Modeler (AspenTech PIMS): Evaluating refinery economics, breakeven values, feedstock purchases, and product mixes to optimize refinery value across Gulf and East Coast refineries with an accent on LP modeling, operational constraints, and downstream value-chain drivers. Focus on developing weekly breakeven reports, analyzing new opportunities, exchanging market intelligence, and coordinating optimization decisions with refineries and commercial traders.
Location: Houston, Texas, United States; travel to regional refinery sites is required.
Base salary: $140,400–$171,600 per year.

What you will do
- Develop and publish weekly refinery breakeven reports in line with company guidelines.
- Evaluate refinery economics, purchase and sale breakeven values, and new commercial opportunities using LP analysis.
- Assess feedstock purchase swaps and product-mix reoptimization based on market conditions.
- Lead weekly discussions with refineries and commercial traders to review breakeven values and opportunities.
- Maintain the LP model so it reflects refinery capabilities and current operating constraints.
- Provide refinery economics expertise, market intelligence, and competitor analysis to commercial and refinery stakeholders.
Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the United States; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- At least four years of experience in refinery economics, operations, process engineering, fuels blending, or scheduling.
- Direct experience with LP modeling and AspenTech PIMS.
- Strong understanding of downstream value-chain business drivers.
- Intermediate or greater proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PIMS.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
- At least three years of experience in refinery planning and economics.
- At least five years of experience with AspenTech PIMS.
- Experience with HCAMS/HCOMET, PI Vision/PI AF, or Visual Basic programming.
- Strong analytical, data-management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
