Senior AI / ML Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Seattle or Austin, United States

Salary: $184,500–$258,000 total cash annually, with potential pay up to $295,000 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines for Layla and Bellboy AI-native trip-planning and booking experiences.
• Own data quality, reliability, observability, and documentation for critical production datasets.
• Build data foundations for experimentation, product analytics, and AI/ML model evaluation.
• Support production AI/ML systems through feature and data availability, evaluation datasets, and monitoring.
• Partner with Product, Analytics, and ML/engineering teams to create dependable self-serve data solutions.
• Promote testing, documentation, reusable engineering patterns, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Advanced SQL, data modeling, and production data pipeline engineering experience.
• Proficiency with Python for data engineering.
• Experience owning data quality, reliability, and observability for critical production datasets.
• Familiarity with production AI/ML systems, feature or data pipelines, evaluation datasets, experimentation, and responsible AI/ML use.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt, BigQuery or Snowflake, and Looker or Metabase.
• Experience building experimentation frameworks and product analytics for consumer products with paid acquisition.
• Knowledge of attribution modeling and its limitations.
• Experience with generative AI systems, AI-assisted development tools, travel, marketplaces, e-commerce, or building data functions from scratch.
