Cloud Engineer (AWS/GCP)

Location: Bethesda, MD, United States; full-time onsite at NCBI

What you will do

• Support developers and production services operating in Amazon AWS and Google GCP environments.
• Operate and maintain existing cloud services.
• Participate in technical and management discussions, including new architecture initiatives.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies.
• Develop tools to monitor and manage cloud environments and enforce established policies.

Requirements

• Strong Linux systems administration experience, particularly with CentOS 7 or Red Hat 7.
• Experience managing AWS or Google Cloud resources, including users, roles, permissions, compute instances, VPCs, subnets, routing, and firewall rules.
• Experience writing scripts to automate management tasks, using Bourne/bash shell, Ruby, Python, or Perl.
• Understanding of networking concepts including subnetting, basic routing, UDP, TCP, and ICMP.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitLab.
• Experience with Windows administration, Active Directory, Puppet, Git, and Atlassian tools.
• Experience with cloud automation and monitoring tools including Terraform, Packer, cloud-init, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, Telegraf, or InfluxDB.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
