Principal Designer

Location: Chicago, IL; hybrid work between the office and home. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based visa sponsorship.

Salary: $137,400–$233,600 USD base pay annually.

What you will do

• Lead the design experience and maturity of the product design system, Storybook components, and Figma Library for a client-facing wealth management platform.
• Accelerate product delivery through reusable, production-ready components, templates, patterns, and page frameworks.
• Improve consistency across advisor, client, prospect, and operational experiences through standardized interaction and visual patterns.
• Align future-state experience vision, product roadmaps, and implementation through continuous Storybook enhancement and design governance.
• Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using observational studies, client and partner interviews, usability testing, prototyping, and other human-centered methods.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, communicate design vision and strategy, mentor colleagues, and support accessibility maturity and scalable component architectures.

Requirements

• 12+ years of demonstrated experience delivering digital experiences.
• Education in design or a related field, either formally or through comparable training.
• Design thinking and UI/UX best practices demonstrated through a professional portfolio.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams or a large-scale software development lifecycle, preferably in an agile environment.
• Ability to apply Human-Centered Design and UI/UX best practices in a professional setting.
• Expertise in relevant design methods, including low-fidelity sketching, information architecture, wireframes, usability testing, research planning, and competitive analysis.
• Exceptional presentation, storytelling, collaboration, and communication skills, including the ability to lead teams toward a common vision.
• Flexibility, adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, a growth mindset, and a proactive approach to challenges.
