Senior Full Stack Developer (Python/Django)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, at the NIH-NCBI onsite and/or remote

What you will do

• Build and maintain robust, performant, user-facing web applications in Python and Django for millions of daily users.
• Develop and ship functionality for user interaction and scientific data backends using modern APIs and frameworks.
• Build efficient backend components and integrate frontend components into applications.
• Develop test suites and monitor application performance, security, and accessibility compliance.
• Deliver responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly code through automated testing, building, and deployment.
• Contribute to development standards, code reviews, process improvements, and mentoring junior developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of full-stack web application development experience, including 3+ years with Python and Django.
• Proficiency in a current programming language such as Python, Kotlin, or Java.
• Experience with relational database modeling and data migration.
• Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
• Experience with Git or SVN, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Angular or React and RESTful web services.
• Familiarity with Lucene or Solr search backends.
• Experience with semantic markup, modern web layout techniques, and Selenium regression testing.
• Agile development experience and experience in a technical lead role.
