Python/Django Developer (Django)

Location: NIH-NCBI in Bethesda, Maryland; full-time onsite and/or remote work

What you will do

• Build robust, performant, user-facing web applications with Python, Django, and Angular.
• Develop functionality for user interaction, scientific data visualization, APIs, and services.
• Deliver responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly code through automated testing, builds, and deployments.
• Collaborate with user researchers, designers, product managers, scientists, security specialists, and DevOps engineers in an agile product team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics, another scientific field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of full-stack web application development using Python and Django or FastAPI with a front-end JavaScript framework.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, relational database modeling, and data migration.
• Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
• Experience with Git or SVN and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• RESTful API design, OAuth2 authorization, and Angular.
• Service-oriented and event-driven architectures, message-based workflows, and search technologies such as Lucene or Solr.
• Automated regression testing, agile development, and message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Redis for Celery-based systems.
