Principal Applied Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid, with in-office work 1–2 days per week and a requirement to reside within commuting distance of an hirify.global office in Walnut Creek, California; New York, New York; or Chicago, Illinois. Candidates outside a reasonable commuting distance will not be considered unless an accommodation is granted.

Salary: $214,192–$350,496 per year for roles based in California, New York, or Illinois.

What you will do

• Define and drive enterprise AI and machine learning strategy.
• Lead the design, validation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of advanced AI and ML solutions.
• Architect scalable production systems covering model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Translate complex business challenges into scalable AI solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Establish technical standards, reusable patterns, and governance practices for enterprise AI development.
• Partner with business and technology leaders and mentor data scientists, ML engineers, researchers, and technical leaders.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in computer science, machine learning, statistics, applied mathematics, operations research, engineering, data science, economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in machine learning, data science, AI, advanced analytics, or related technical fields.
• Experience leading AI or ML initiatives from concept through production deployment.
• Experience with Python, machine learning frameworks, cloud-based AI or ML platforms, MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, lifecycle management, and structured and unstructured data systems.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement and report to an office within commuting distance of Walnut Creek, New York, or Chicago.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI, large language models, reinforcement learning, information retrieval, forecasting, recommender systems, optimization, causal inference, experimentation, or decision intelligence.
• Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, life sciences, or another regulated industry.
