Sr Mechanical Design Engineer (Genomics)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite full-time

Base salary: $98,400–$147,600 per year, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity programs.

What you will do

• Design custom mechanical mechanisms, precision motion systems, assemblies, and fluidic or sample-handling components for genomics instruments.
• Integrate mechanical designs with electrical, firmware, and control systems.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation.
• Perform tolerance stack-ups, material selection, and basic structural evaluations.
• Build and evaluate prototypes, support system testing, troubleshoot issues, and refine designs.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners on fabrication and assembly.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of mechanical design experience in mechanisms and motion systems, or an equivalent advanced-degree experience path.
• Experience developing electromechanical or mechatronic systems, preferably for instrumentation or automation.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX, plus familiarity with PDM systems.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFA principles, manufacturing processes, prototyping, and testing.
• Clear communication, task management, and effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
