TL;DR
Cyber Defense and Incident Response Analyst (Cybersecurity): Investigating and containing high-impact cyber incidents, improving detection coverage, and coordinating response across security, IT, legal, HR, communications, and business teams with an accent on digital forensics, threat hunting, malware analysis, and incident response methodology. Focus on leading complex investigations, developing response playbooks, driving UBA and logging improvements, and strengthening cyber defense maturity in a regulated insurance environment.

Location: Hybrid schedule with three days per week at a Guardian office in New York, NY, or Holmdel, NJ; 20% travel to other Guardian offices as needed. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Salary: $95,170–$156,355 per year, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Investigate complex, high-impact cyber incidents escalated from the SOC and lead technical response activities.
  • Coordinate identification, containment, investigation, response, and recovery with cybersecurity, IT, engineering, legal, business continuity, and other teams.
  • Develop and refine incident response plans, playbooks, quick-reference guides, crisis communications procedures, and SOC operating procedures.
  • Improve logging, monitoring, detection coverage, UBA capabilities, automation, and security control effectiveness.
  • Lead incident response training, debriefs, after-action reporting, metrics, risk mitigation initiatives, and cyber defense maturity improvements.
  • Support DLP and insider risk programs, audits, regulatory requests, vendor management, roadmap development, and talent planning.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of cybersecurity experience focused on digital forensics, incident response, SOC operations, or threat mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of incident response methodologies, digital forensics, evidence handling, threat hunting, malware analysis, attacker techniques, and vulnerabilities.
  • Experience with enterprise, public cloud, and SaaS environments, including SIEM, log analytics, monitoring, insider threat, and UBA concepts.
  • Experience with AI models and LLMs, including implementing AI for cyber detection and response.
  • Practical experience with NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, and related security frameworks.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience in regulated financial services or insurance environments and knowledge of U.S. privacy regulations.
  • BS or MS in cybersecurity or digital forensics, or equivalent experience and industry certifications.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical teams.
