TL;DR
Regulatory Affairs Lead (Chemicals): Managing Japanese chemical regulatory submissions, compliance assessments, permits, and hazard communication activities with an accent on CSCL, ISHL, PRTR, and coordination with MHLW, MOE, and METI. Focus on developing regulatory strategies, interpreting technical documentation, coordinating product testing, and maintaining SDS and labels in SAP EHS.

Location: Hybrid in Tokyo, Japan

What you will do

  • Develop regulatory strategies and timelines, and prepare, submit, and maintain chemical management filings for compliance with Japanese regulations.
  • Assess products against Japanese regulatory requirements and manage submissions to MHLW, MOE, METI, and under ISHL.
  • Prepare and renew Poisonous and Deleterious Substances permits.
  • Support internal and external customers and collaborate with cross-functional teams on registration, product development, and commercialization activities.
  • Coordinate product testing and complete regulatory submissions based on testing conducted internally or by external consultants.
  • Manage hazard communication in Japan, including SDS and label preparation in SAP EHS and implementation of PRTR and ISHL requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preparing and executing national and international regulatory submissions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Japanese chemical regulations, including CSCL and ISHL.
  • Ability to interpret technical and regulatory documents and prepare comprehensive, high-quality submissions.
  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Preferred: very good Japanese and English communication skills in writing, speaking, and presentations.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of China MEE Order No. 12, Taiwan REACH, Korea REACH, US TSCA, or other regional regulatory programs.
  • Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) or equivalent.
