Director, Head of Program Management (Biotech)

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $186,000–$239,000 USD per year, plus annual incentive bonus and equity grants.

What you will do

• Build and lead a fit-for-purpose Program Management function supporting execution, transparent communication, and effective decision-making.
• Guide Program Managers in developing and managing integrated program plans covering timelines, scenarios, risks, critical paths, decision maps, goals, and budget drivers.
• Establish and continuously improve program management capabilities, tools, and practices.
• Partner with Finance and Corporate Development to prepare for portfolio reviews and align program goals with enterprise objectives.
• Monitor program risks and trends across the portfolio, escalating issues and proposing mitigation strategies.
• Promote clear communication, effective decision-making, and high-performing program and alliance teams while coaching and mentoring colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, business, or a related field with 15 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 13 years; or a PhD with 10 years.
• Significant program management, program operations, or cross-functional development experience in a dynamic biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
• Strong understanding of drug development from research and preclinical development through IND-enabling activities, regulatory submissions, and clinical development.
• Ability to bridge scientific and business interests, influence without authority, and build alignment in a matrixed organization.
• Knowledge of program management principles, practices, and tools, including Office Timeline, Think-Cell, and Smartsheet/Microsoft Project.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.

• Commercial development experience.
• Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification.
• Experience in genetic medicines.
