Automated Distribution Centre Manager (ASRS): Commissioning and leading a fully automated, shuttle-based distribution centre with an accent on WMS/WCS-driven operations, end-to-end material flow, safety, service, cost, and P&L accountability. Focus on stabilising a 24×7 site, troubleshooting mechanical, system, and process issues, controlling exceptions and bottlenecks, and optimising performance with OEMs and technical partners.

Location: Moorabbin, VIC 3189, Australia; on-site leadership of a 24×7 automated distribution centre

Launching a greenfield, fully automated distribution centre powered by a shuttle-based ASRS with high pallet density and tightly controlled system logic.

What you will do

  • Support commissioning, start-up, user acceptance testing, defect identification, and transition to steady-state operations.
  • Own site performance across safety, service, throughput, uptime, cost, budgets, forecasts, EBIT, and P&L outcomes.
  • Manage end-to-end inbound, storage, shuffling, and outbound flow within the automated system.
  • Lead a small 24×7 operations team, establishing flow control, escalation practices, and SOP adherence.
  • Identify exceptions, congestion, bottlenecks, and operational risks through a strong on-floor presence.
  • Coordinate service delivery and continuous improvement with customers, OEMs, automation vendors, WMS/WCS teams, IT support, and maintenance partners.

Requirements

  • Experience in an automated distribution centre, ASRS, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of WMS/WCS-driven operations and end-to-end flow management.
  • Technical ability to troubleshoot mechanical, system, and process issues in automation systems.
  • Experience in high-risk or automated safety environments.
  • Ability to lead a small team in a 24×7 operation and make real-time operational decisions.
  • Demonstrated ownership of site performance, financial outcomes, Lean, continuous improvement, and root cause analysis.

Nice to have

  • Greenfield start-up, commissioning, or major transformation experience.
  • Background in ASRS, flow control, or automation-heavy operations.
  • Experience stabilising and optimising operations after go-live.
  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Engineering, Logistics, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training; current forklift licence or high-risk work exposure.
