Internal Audit Consultant (Healthcare)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid with an in-office requirement of at least three days per week.

Base pay: $76,600–$138,500 per year; eligible for an annual incentive bonus plan.

What you will do

• Provide staff supervision, staff development, and project management for audit teams.
• Lead and consult on complex corporate audits and technical audit assignments.
• Develop and maintain internal control guidelines and evaluate the adequacy of controls in new or revised business processes and systems.
• Advise management on minimum control standards required for new initiatives.
• Lead, train, and supervise professional staff in audit areas including process mapping, documentation, sampling, reporting, data collection, and analytics.
• Resolve conflicts and negotiate with staff, peers, management, and business leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, a related business field, or a health-related field.
• Five years of auditing experience, or four years of internal audit experience combined with nine years of experience in a financial or operational environment.
• Experience leading or consulting on complex audits.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures, functional responsibilities, process flow and mapping, report writing, accounting and auditing standards, data collection and analytics, analysis, documentation, and sampling techniques.
• Ability to lead others through listening, receptivity, positive motivation, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
• Knowledge of accounting, financial consulting, information systems operations and design, business information resources, business practices, business law, and industry best practices.
• Presentation and delivery skills, including the ability to orient and train others in office, database, spreadsheet, computer-aided, and web browser applications.
• Thorough knowledge of verbal and written communication, time and project management, and consulting practices.
• Knowledge of corporate operations, business partner support, compliance, code of conduct, corporate policies and procedures, organizational structures, regulatory policies and procedures, subsidiary operations, and third-party risk management.

Nice to have

• Background in financial and operational audits.
• Experience leading risk-based audits.
• Professional certification in accounting, audit, systems audit, or insurance, such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFSA.
• Post-graduate courses, such as an MBA, or other technical training.
• Experience with corporate health and life operations, business partner operations, compliance support, code of conduct, and corporate policies and procedures.
