Translator I (Japanese / English)

Location: De Soto, Kansas, United States; onsite. Candidates must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without restriction.

What you will do

• Translate policies, procedures, manuals, reports, presentations, proposals, contracts, emails, and administrative documents between Japanese and English.
• Provide real-time interpretation for meetings, conference calls, and daily communication between Japanese expatriates and domestic staff.
• Support production, construction, engineering, and cross-functional project teams with bilingual communication.
• Research terminology and maintain translation memory tools and terminology databases.
• Improve translation workflows while meeting accuracy, consistency, style, and turnaround requirements.
• Follow workplace confidentiality, data integrity, quality, safety, and PPE requirements in the manufacturing environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English across reading, writing, and speaking.
• Strong understanding of translation principles, including accuracy, tone, and context.
• Experience or exposure to interpretation through academic, internship, or professional settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, work outside standard hours when needed, and use required PPE in a construction or manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Linguistics, Translation, or a related field.
• Two or more years of translation experience through internships, co-ops, or entry-level manufacturing roles.
• Exposure to manufacturing, automotive, electronics, or industrial environments.
• Technical or production terminology knowledge and familiarity with CAT tools or translation memory systems.
• Experience supporting cross-functional teams or projects.
