Translator I (Japanese / English)

Location: Onsite in De Soto, Kansas, United States. Valid authorization to work in the U.S. without restriction is required.

What you will do

• Translate policies, procedures, manuals, reports, presentations, proposals, contracts, emails, and other materials between Japanese and English.
• Provide real-time interpretation for meetings, conference calls, and daily communication between Japanese expatriates and domestic staff.
• Maintain translation accuracy, terminology consistency, and adherence to company style and quality standards.
• Use translation memory tools and maintain terminology databases while researching technical and linguistic terminology.
• Support production, construction, engineering, and project teams with bilingual communication and clear understanding of requirements.
• Follow workplace confidentiality, data integrity, safety, and PPE requirements in manufacturing and construction areas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English in reading, writing, and speaking is required.
• Foundational knowledge of translation principles, including accuracy, tone, and context.
• Experience or exposure to interpretation in academic, internship, or professional settings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing or construction environment and use required PPE.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, linguistics, translation, or a related field.
• Two or more years of translation experience through internships, co-ops, or entry-level manufacturing roles.
• Exposure to manufacturing, automotive, electronics, industrial, technical, or production terminology.
• Familiarity with CAT tools, translation memory systems, or cross-functional project support.
