Principal Engineer (C# / Search Systems): Architecting and evolving scalable travel platforms that support millions of customers, with an accent on search relevance, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture. Focus on modernising legacy C# codebases, defining reusable technical patterns across teams, and leading transformation initiatives that improve performance and reliability.
Location: Hybrid in Manchester, UK, with office attendance one day every two weeks. Full-time applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. Core working hours are 10am–4pm.

What you will do
- Define technical strategy, architectural direction, and transformation roadmaps with Product Engineering leadership.
- Design and optimise search systems for relevance, scalability, and reliability.
- Oversee the evolution and refactoring of existing C# systems.
- Establish engineering standards and reusable patterns across multiple teams.
- Lead modernisation initiatives while balancing technical and business priorities.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with Product, Data, and Platform teams on complex change.
Requirements
- Experience shaping technical direction and influencing engineering outcomes at scale.
- Experience designing and optimising search technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, or OpenSearch.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, preferably AWS, and modern web technologies.
- Experience leading teams through change and transformation.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Eligibility to work full-time in the UK.
