Lead AI Engineer (Generative AI)

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of AI, backend, and frontend engineers.
• Define and evolve Kai’s architecture for agent orchestration, retrieval, context management, tool integrations, access control, observability, and evaluation.
• Deliver production-grade generative AI features from discovery through launch and continuous iteration.
• Build evaluation, staged-release, rollback, monitoring, and safety practices for changing models, prompts, and data.
• Drive scalable and resilient services, APIs, data pipelines, testing, SLOs, incident response, and operational readiness.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, Security, Infrastructure, and domain teams to build secure customer experiences and reusable AI platforms.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading, managing, or formally mentoring engineers.
• Experience designing and operating scalable agentic architectures, backend systems, or distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of retrieval, model integration, agent workflows, evaluation, observability, and changing model behavior.
• Experience with quality measurement, monitoring, incident management, performance, and operational readiness.
• Understanding of secure software design, authentication, authorization, data protection, auditability, and abuse prevention.
