Network Connectivity Engineer (Data Center)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee or Southaven, Mississippi, United States. Approximately 40% travel is required, with hands-on work in data center environments and occasional extended hours or weekends for deployments and cutovers.

What you will do

• Design scalable, future-proof data center connectivity and structured cabling plants for network clusters exceeding 40 MW and transmission speeds beyond 800G.
• Procure fiber, copper, and other connectivity materials for new builds, expansions, and technology refreshes.
• Manage connectivity project scopes, construction oversight, network upgrades, and overhauls in live data center environments.
• Develop deployment procedures, audit installations, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and hold vendors accountable for repairs.
• Maintain as-built documentation and coordinate ISP circuits, cross-connects, and circuit deployments across multiple regions.
• Collaborate with capacity planning, network engineering, hardware reliability, construction, and operations teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline, or 8 years of equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of experience working in and designing data center connectivity.
• Experience with multimode and singlemode fiber, copper, structured cabling, and active and passive cabling systems.
• Experience with connectivity testing and troubleshooting using tools such as OTDRs, light meters, VFLs, loopbacks, and BERT.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, InfiniBand, RoCE, high-speed HPC and ML connectivity, optical transceivers, network switches, and Layer 1 hardware.
• Ability to work hands-on in heat, cold, and tight quarters; hold a valid driver’s license; lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted; and travel approximately 40%.

Nice to have

• RCDD certification.
• Experience with loss calculations, fiber test interpretation, DWDM, MPO, AOC, DAC, and copper connectivity.
• Knowledge of Python, SQL, monitoring and alerting systems, and relevant TIA, BICSI, and NEC standards.
• Ability to manage multiple projects across different time zones.
