TL;DR
Space Avionics Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, and testing avionics systems for Varda’s spacecraft with an accent on electrical architecture, system-level verification, and mission readiness for launch and reentry operations. Focus on analyzing system faults, building Hardware-In-the-Loop testbeds, developing ground infrastructure, and supporting mission operations.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Relocation support may be available for new hires if needed.

Salary: $131,000–$184,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Define avionics project scopes and requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding systems from concept through prototype and production.
  • Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
  • Analyze avionics faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and support Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery strategies.
  • Plan and execute verification activities for flight and Hardware-In-the-Loop systems supporting launch, space operations, and hypersonic reentry testing.
  • Integrate spacecraft avionics, investigate system-level issues, and participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
  • Build and operate Hardware-In-the-Loop testbeds and avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
  • Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
  • Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
  • Must work on-site in El Segundo, California, and be lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under applicable ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept through operational production.
  • Experience setting up HITL testbeds, managing configuration control, and conducting system-level tests.
  • Familiarity with Unix environments, command-line utilities, test-case development, and vehicle-condition test equipment.
  • Project or program management experience.
  • Background in avionics hardware, FPGA engineering, electronics testing, or electrical systems engineering.
