Principal Software Engineer (AI Email App)

Location: United Kingdom, London, Greater London; hybrid work arrangement.

What you will do

• Own application engineering strategy and execution across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms.
• Design reliable AI-powered workflows covering state management, orchestration, tool use, retries, fallbacks, and failure handling.
• Build APIs and abstractions connecting AI systems with real-world product experiences.
• Lead a small senior engineering team through architecture and code reviews, hands-on mentorship, and technical guidance.
• Balance latency, reliability, cost, security, and user experience in high-impact engineering decisions.
• Establish observability, monitoring, testing, and operational excellence for production systems.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading application or product engineering for complex systems.
• Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Experience building AI-powered products or systems integrating modern ML and LLM capabilities.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to make decisions with incomplete information.
• Experience working across backend and client platforms, with deep expertise in at least one area.
• High standards for code quality, reliability, ownership, and engineering fundamentals.
