Principal Software Engineer (Microsoft Fabric)

Location: Redmond, Washington, United States; three days per week in the office

Salary: USD $142,800–$274,800 per year across the U.S.; USD $188,000–$304,200 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Architect complex data integration products end to end, balancing performance, scalability, resiliency, and cost efficiency.
• Shape pipelines, dataflows, authoring experiences, runtime execution, monitoring, and diagnostics across Microsoft Fabric.
• Set technical direction, translate customer requirements into engineering plans, and resolve dependencies across Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Power Query teams.
• Lead code quality, security, compliance, test strategy, automation, safe deployments, and threat-modeling practices.
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence across the full software development lifecycle.
• Own live-site reliability through telemetry, observability, incident response, postmortems, root-cause fixes, and improved on-call practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
• Experience coding in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, algorithm design, scalable application architecture, and robust software engineering practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and solid English proficiency for collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Experience with TypeScript or Python.
• Experience designing scalable products and services, integrating quality assurance and lifecycle management, and applying data-driven problem solving.
