Principal Forward Deployed Engineer - Software Engineer

Location: Tokyo, Japan; 3 days per week in-office

What you will do

• Shape customer opportunities and translate business needs into clear, actionable technical approaches.
• Build and deliver production-grade solutions in customer environments with end-to-end ownership.
• Deliver iterative, high-impact solutions in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
• Engage senior stakeholders, build trust, align priorities, and guide technical and business decisions.
• Apply industry and customer context to tailor solutions and prepare work for Forward Deployed Engineering crews.
• Maintain technical direction and continuity throughout the engagement lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with at least 6 years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• At least 6 years of coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience partnering directly with customers or internal stakeholders to deliver solutions end to end.
• Fluency in Japanese and English is required.
• Principal-level qualifications may include 10+ years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8+ years with a master’s degree.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience delivering AI solutions, including building and deploying LLM-based systems.
• Experience ensuring model quality and performance with modern cloud AI platforms.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
