Data Engineer II (Flink)

Location: Aliso Viejo, California, United States; subject to a hybrid working policy.

Salary: $150,100–$225,100 USD base pay annually, with potential bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Design and implement middleware and backend systems for high-throughput, concurrent workloads.
• Develop and maintain stateful and stateless Flink stream-processing jobs and scalable ETL pipelines.
• Optimize data pipeline performance, reliability, monitoring, and scalability.
• Support migration from on-premises Kafka to new cloud technologies.
• Contribute to architecture decisions for the PlayStation Cloud Streaming data platform.
• Work with Business Intelligence and product teams to turn data into actionable business insights.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software development and backend engineering experience with high-throughput, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems.
• Proficiency in JVM languages including Kotlin, Scala, or Java, as well as Python.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, SQL, ETL, stream processing, real-time pipelines, and batch processing.
• Knowledge of REST, JSON, gRPC, WebSockets, Avro, Protobuf, functional programming, object-oriented programming, TDD, Git, and CI/CD.
• Experience monitoring system performance and diagnosing reliability, performance, and scalability bottlenecks.

Nice to have

• Enterprise-scale Amazon Web Services experience, including OpenSearch, MSK, and EKS.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud deployment technologies.
