TL;DR
Sr. Systems Engineer (Medical Devices): Defining, integrating, and validating complex intraoperative neuromonitoring systems across software, hardware, robotics, imaging, and disposables with an accent on system architecture, interface definition, performance analysis, and risk management. Focus on coordinating IOM interoperability with navigation and robotic systems, analyzing real-time distributed behavior, and ensuring traceability through design controls and verification and validation.

What you will do

  • Translate business and clinical needs into system and subsystem requirements while maintaining requirements traceability.
  • Define system architecture, interfaces, data flows, and interactions across software, hardware, robotics, imaging, user interfaces, and disposables.
  • Support the development and validation of intraoperative neuromonitoring systems and coordinate interoperability with Excelsius Navigation and robotic systems.
  • Develop system-level accuracy metrics, characterize performance, and conduct statistical analysis and Design of Experiments.
  • Analyze latency, synchronization, real-time behavior, distributed components, failure modes, and system-level risks.
  • Coordinate technical work across software, hardware, clinical, regulatory, and manufacturing teams, including field issue triage and root cause analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, including mechanical, electrical, biomedical, software, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing complex systems, such as medical devices, intraoperative neuromonitoring systems, robotics, or similar products.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience working across software and hardware domains and decomposing complex systems into interacting subsystems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Onsite work in San Diego, California, United States is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with medical devices and FDA-regulated development processes.
  • Familiarity with intraoperative neuromonitoring, surgical navigation, robotics, or image-guided systems.
  • Exposure to real-time systems, distributed architectures, or hardware communication protocols.
  • Experience with system-level validation, statistical analysis, performance characterization, risk analysis, or FMEAs.
