Software Engineer III (AI Systems)

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, United States; in-person collaboration at Walmart campuses is emphasized.

Salary: $90,000–$180,000 annual base salary for Bentonville. Additional performance bonuses and stock may apply.

What you will do

• Build agentic AI services covering planning, tool use, retrieval, memory, evaluation, feedback loops, and guardrails.
• Productionize LLM, GNN, and embedding-based models behind stable APIs and SDKs.
• Develop GPU-accelerated data pipelines with RAPIDS and distributed workflows with Ray or similar frameworks.
• Design reliable microservices for training, inference, vector indexing, and real-time decisioning.
• Implement observability, fault tolerance, autoscaling, CI/CD, testing, and rollback strategies for AI services.
• Integrate feature stores, vector databases, artifact registries, and model catalogs while enforcing security, privacy, and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related area with 2 years of software engineering experience, or 4 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience building production backend or platform services, preferably in AI/ML contexts.
• Strong Python skills plus Go, Java, or C++ for performance-oriented services.
• Experience with Ray, Spark, or Dask; RAPIDS and GPU-aware programming concepts; FastAPI or Flask; Kubernetes; and Docker.
• Strong foundations in data structures and algorithms, concurrency, networking, and systems design.
• Ability to collaborate with product, platform, and data science or machine learning engineering teams, document systems, and mentor peers.

Nice to have

• Production experience with agent frameworks, tool-use patterns, retrieval, memory components, and evaluation harnesses.
• Experience with vector databases such as FAISS, Milvus, pgvector, or Pinecone, and with feature stores.
• Experience with GPU scheduling, autoscaling, performance profilers, vLLM, Triton Inference Server, ONNX Runtime, or TensorRT.
• Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
