CMT Field and Laboratory Technician (Construction Materials Testing)

What you will do

• Perform field testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate materials according to ASTM, AASHTO, and project specifications.
• Conduct nuclear density testing, concrete testing, asphalt testing, and construction activity observations.
• Collect, transport, receive, sample, and prepare materials for laboratory testing.
• Perform laboratory tests including Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, compression, aggregate, and asphalt testing.
• Record observations and results, calculate and review test data, and prepare project documentation.
• Communicate results with project managers, contractors, and clients while maintaining equipment, vehicles, laboratory facilities, and safety compliance.

Requirements

• Experience in construction materials testing, field inspection, laboratory testing, or a related construction field is preferred.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and industry-standard testing procedures is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, mathematical ability, accurate documentation skills, and basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic reporting proficiency.
• Ability to read construction plans and specifications, work independently in the field, and collaborate in a laboratory environment.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice to have

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification.
• ATTI, WAQTC, ASTM, or AASHTO soils, aggregate, or asphalt certifications.
• Radiation Safety, Nuclear Gauge Safety, or ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification.
• Additional ICC, NICET, or construction inspection certifications.
• Experience with field density testing, earthwork, concrete placement, asphalt paving, laboratory testing, and construction QA/QC services.
