Director, Analytical Chemistry (mRNA-LNP)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; site-based and full-time on-site. Not eligible for remote work. Only U.S. persons are eligible due to U.S. export control requirements.

Salary: $167,000–$300,700 per year, plus potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Lead and develop analytical scientists supporting discovery-stage mRNA-LNP research.
• Set analytical strategy for lipid design, payload evaluation, formulation screening, and candidate advancement.
• Direct structure elucidation, purity and impurity profiling, method development, and characterization of lipids, polymers, small molecules, RNA, and nanoparticles.
• Partner with medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, formulation, delivery sciences, biology, and development teams to translate data into scientific decisions.
• Oversee analytical method qualification, transfer, lifecycle management, technical documentation, and CRO/CDMO collaborations.
• Apply high-throughput methodologies, AI, and machine learning to improve data analysis and research decisions.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, with 9+ years of relevant industry experience; strong M.S. candidates with significant leadership experience may be considered.
• Substantial analytical chemistry experience in biotech or pharmaceutical discovery or early development, including program, function, or platform leadership.
• Deep expertise in small-molecule, polymer, and lipid analytics, including structure elucidation, impurity assessment, advanced characterization, and orthogonal analytical methods.
• Expertise with UPLC, HPLC, LC-MS, LC-CAD, GC-MS, CE, NMR, UV/Vis, IR, particle or colloidal characterization, and related techniques.
• Working knowledge of large-molecule and nucleic-acid analytics, including mRNA or related RNA characterization and formulation interfaces.
• Full-time on-site presence in Cambridge is required; only U.S. persons may access export-controlled information, and visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

• Experience with mRNA-LNP, oligonucleotide, gene-editing, or related nucleic-acid modalities.
• Experience with lipid libraries, ionizable lipid structure-property relationships, and high-throughput formulation screening.
• Experience supporting IND-enabling or early clinical programs and regulatory analytical documentation.
• Familiarity with design of experiments, multivariate data analysis, cheminformatics, and digital laboratory systems.
• Publications, patents, or other evidence of scientific thought leadership.
