Director / Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry

Location: On-site at the San Diego Headquarters, United States

Salary: $196,000–$245,000 for Director or $224,000–$280,000 for Senior Director annually

What you will do

• Lead project scientists and drive molecular discovery efforts toward development and clinical candidates.
• Develop hit identification, lead discovery, and optimization strategies focused on potency, selectivity, and ADME properties.
• Coordinate internal and external medicinal chemistry capabilities, including CROs and research collaborators.
• Collaborate with AI/ML, computational chemistry, and chemistry automation teams to develop predictive models and improve the design–make–test cycle.
• Integrate biology, DMPK/ADME, CADD, and CMC into strategic project plans and communicate progress to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior chemists and foster scientific excellence, innovation, and teamwork.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with 15+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug discovery experience, or MS/BS with 20+ years of experience.
• Expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry demonstrated through high-quality publications and patents.
• Proven experience leading cross-functional drug discovery programs from hit or lead stage through development candidate nomination and preclinical development.
• Practical knowledge of target protein degradation modalities, including molecular glues and PROTACs.
• Experience working with computational chemists and developing drug-target design strategies.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
