Payroll Lead (AI)

Location: Stockholm, Sweden; on-site. Based in Stockholm or willing to relocate to Sweden.

What you will do

• Own the payroll delivery model, deciding whether to oversee outsourced service centers, bring payroll in-house, or use a hybrid approach.
• Lead the transition to a reliable, accurate, highly automated payroll operation.
• Manage payroll accounting, including journals, accruals, reconciliations, general-ledger integration, and month-end close support.
• Own payroll and tax treatment for equity events, options, secondaries, clawbacks, and benefits in kind.
• Manage payroll taxes, employer contributions, PAYE, social security, year-end reporting, and record retention.
• Maintain payroll controls and an audit trail, support external audit, and develop toward global payroll ownership.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of payroll experience at senior-manager level, with a proven record of owning payroll.
• Expert, current knowledge of Swedish payroll, including Skatteverket employer reporting (AGI), employer contributions, expert tax and SINK, pensions, and benefits.
• Working knowledge of LAS and BFL, plus strong payroll accounting skills covering journals, accruals, reconciliations, and entity and cost-center coding.
• Experience with equity or share-based compensation payroll and benefit-in-kind taxation.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions in a greenfield environment, and build an audit-ready, controls-minded function.
• Excellent English communication skills required; Swedish is a strong plus.

• International or multi-entity payroll experience, particularly across the UK, US, or EOR arrangements.
