Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Washington, DC, USA, or San Diego, California, USA. Remote work is available, but occasional in-person work at a company or customer facility may be required.

Salary: $99,000–$225,000 annualized USD.

What you will do

• Define, design, and deliver mission-relevant agentic AI prototypes in fast, iterative development cycles.
• Build, test, and deploy agent-based solutions with product leads, solution architects, and engineers.
• Implement agent orchestration, tool use, memory, retrieval, and multi-agent interaction patterns.
• Balance solution quality, reliability, and cost across multiple concurrent efforts.
• Own technical delivery end to end, from design through deployment, within a four-week prototype lifecycle.
• Document work, participate in code reviews, and maintain clean, reusable code.

Requirements

• Experience building and delivering agentic AI applications in production or prototype environments.
• Experience implementing agent orchestration frameworks, agent loops, and tool-calling workflows.
• Knowledge of LLM platforms and providers, including AWS Bedrock and OpenAI or Ollama.
• Knowledge of prompt engineering for reliability, controllability, and task performance.
• Knowledge of MCP usage and development, including external tool integration.
• High school diploma or GED.

Nice to have

• Experience with RAG or GraphRAG retrieval patterns for agentic systems.
• Experience building evaluation frameworks, test harnesses, quality benchmarks, or observability for agentic systems.
• Knowledge of session and chat memory management across multi-turn workflows.
• Ability to design and document lightweight APIs exposing agent capabilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
