Senior Software Engineer, Media Creation

Location: Remote - United States

Base salary: $190,000–$267,000 USD annually, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position.

What you will do

• Define backend architecture for tools that let users capture, edit, and publish video and image content.
• Build fast, maintainable APIs and backend infrastructure integrated with frontend clients for real-time creator experiences.
• Contribute across technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering partners to deliver new media products and features.
• Improve engineering standards and developer workflows while mentoring junior engineers.
• Balance rapid product development with quality, reliability, and bug prevention.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
• At least 3 years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience designing maintainable APIs using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics.
• Experience with distributed caching and large-scale distributed data storage systems such as Redis.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, communication, and collaboration skills for a fully remote environment.
• A BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Product thinking and experience translating complex workflows such as video editing timelines or AI generation tools into backend state management.
• Experience building asynchronous media processing pipelines and scalable event-driven microservices.
• Experience with background data fetching and SQL-based data analysis.
• Hands-on experience with FFMPEG, GPAC, or similar media processing frameworks.
