Director, Accelerator, Global Health

Location: Seattle, WA, United States

Salary: $423,200–$677,000 USD annually; Seattle and Washington, D.C. range: $465,500–$744,700 USD annually.

What you will do

• Set the Accelerator strategy and decide which novel platform technologies merit foundation funding and attention.
• Lead the Activator unit's sourcing, funding, and milestone-driven support of early-stage concepts through proof-of-concept.
• Evaluate scientific risk, technical feasibility, and execution risk, making decisions about what to fund, scale, or stop.
• Build and lead a high-performing team of program officers and frontier-team leads while advancing inclusive team culture and DEI goals.
• Develop partnerships with biotech, pharma, academia, venture capital, investigators, and portfolio companies.
• Lead portfolio reviews and communicate strategy, progress, and recommendations to senior foundation leadership.

Requirements

• M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent demonstrated experience in a relevant life sciences or biomedical discipline.
• Track record as a serial entrepreneur or venture builder who has taken novel science through proof-of-concept, financing, or clinical validation.
• Experience evaluating early-stage science and technology as an investor, technical diligence lead, or venture partner.
• Deep technical fluency in breakthrough platform areas such as gene-based therapeutics, synthetic biology, AI-enabled drug discovery, diagnostics, or biologics.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and building relationships across biotech, pharma, academia, and venture capital.
• Excellent judgment and communication skills for presenting complex, uncertain investments to senior non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience in a foundation, global health, or other mission-driven organization.
• Board experience with early-stage biotech or health-technology companies.
• Experience designing or running an accelerator, venture studio, or innovation ecosystem program.
• Familiarity with health delivery contexts in low- and middle-income countries.
• Network of scientific founders, technologists, and investors engaged in global health.
