Network Virtualization Security Architect (Telecoms)

Location: Lisboa, Portugal; flexible hybrid work with 8–10 in-office days per month.

What you will do

• Define and maintain security standards, guidance, design patterns, and blueprints for Red Hat VEC and vendor virtualization platforms including Ericsson CNIS, Nokia NCP, and Huawei FusionSphere/FusionStage.
• Review and update VNF/CNF placement guidance to ensure that virtualization infrastructure meets the security, resilience, and operational needs of hosted network functions.
• Lead the evolution of security tooling for configuration assurance, vulnerability management, monitoring, hardening, compliance validation, and continuous security assessment.
• Assess private cloud, telco cloud, and vendor virtualization security designs, identifying risks, control gaps, and mitigations before deployment or scaling.
• Support national security regulation and government-relations activities involving NCSC, Ofcom, UKTL, and BSI.
• Review and contribute to external telecom security standards and guidance from GSMA, 3GPP SCAS, and ETSI NFV.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field and technical qualification in fixed or mobile technologies.
• Strong background in mobile core network security, including packet core, 5G Core, and IMS/voice core environments.
• Deep expertise in VNF/CNF architectures, ETSI NFV principles, telco cloud platforms, and network virtualization supporting critical network functions.
• Knowledge of private cloud, public cloud, and hyperscaler security, including data sovereignty and lawful interception risks.
• Experience defining security standards, hardening guidance, compliance approaches, and security testing methods.
• Fluent English and the ability to communicate complex security risks to senior internal and external stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Cybersecurity qualifications such as CISM, CISA, or CISSP.
• Professional qualifications including PRINCE2, SAFe, APMG, MSP, or ITIL, or significant equivalent experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, ADO, or Project.
