Senior Backend Engineer (L3) - Payments

hirify.global is building infrastructure for cross-border payments for financial institutions, backed by leading investors and operating as a rapidly growing fintech startup.

What you will do

• Own backend payment flows covering initiation, partner routing, lifecycle states, webhooks, returns, recalls, settlement tracking, APIs, and GUI surfaces.
• Build partner integrations for new payment corridors, including banking and payment adapters, cut-off handling, calendars, and reconciliation hooks.
• Design reliable behavior under failures through idempotency, safe retries, duplicate handling, graceful degradation, and exactly-once effects on money state.
• Implement regulated controls such as safeguarding flows, transaction monitoring pipelines, and audit trails.
• Build React-based dashboard views for payment tracking, status, and reporting on top of the APIs.
• Instrument payment success, stuck-payment detection, partner latency, and error rates; collaborate with Product, Operations, Compliance, and senior engineers.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of experience building production backend and distributed systems.
• Payments or fintech experience with live payment or money-path systems.
• Strong TypeScript, Node.js, REST API, PostgreSQL, data modelling, and query skills.
• Experience with external partner APIs, asynchronous processing, queues or workflow engines, and automated backend integration tests.
• Working proficiency with React and Next.js or a similar frontend codebase, including building GUI features on personal APIs.
• Strong object-oriented design, low-level design, problem-solving, written communication, and ownership skills; regular use of AI coding tools is expected.

Nice to have

• Experience with cross-border payments, FX, multi-currency systems, SWIFT, SEPA, or local clearing schemes.
• Double-entry ledgers, large-scale reconciliation, durable workflows such as Temporal, or observability with OpenTelemetry.
• Regulated controls including safeguarding, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, or audit-grade logging.
• Stablecoin or digital-asset payment rails alongside fiat systems.
