Principal Technical Architect (Cloud and Data Architecture)

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria; hybrid model requiring onsite work 50% of the time

What you will do

• Define the application architecture strategy and multi-year technology roadmaps for FT Specialist and Community.
• Set architectural principles, standards, reference architectures, integration patterns, and governance processes across multiple engineering teams.
• Lead modernisation of legacy applications and integrations toward scalable, cloud-native and platform-based architectures.
• Design reusable APIs, events, domain boundaries, shared capabilities, and governed data flows across customer, content, subscription, licensing, and other enterprise domains.
• Shape architectures for AI-native applications, intelligent automation, Model Context Protocol servers, and agent-based services.
• Coach engineering teams and mentor Principal Engineers while influencing technical direction across engineering, product, and platform functions.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience defining and governing cloud-native applications and distributed systems at scale.
• Deep knowledge of public cloud environments, preferably AWS, with hands-on cloud-native design experience.
• Experience with data storage, streaming, processing, metadata management, software modelling, data integration, and domain-driven or event-driven architecture.
• Experience designing reusable APIs, events, domain boundaries, and integrations, and communicating architecture through C4, ArchiMate, UML, or ADRs.
• Understanding of governance, privacy, security, quality, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability, and monitoring in distributed cloud environments.
• Ability to work from Sofia in a hybrid arrangement with onsite attendance 50% of the time.

Nice to have

• Background in software engineering, data engineering, or information architecture.
• Experience with publishing and data products, federated software models, or complex domain-oriented organisations.
• Knowledge of relational, NoSQL, columnar, and graph databases.
• Experience evaluating SaaS data solutions, supplier management, or procurement processes.
