Forward Deployed Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Clarksburg, Maryland, United States; regular travel to customer sites and international travel of up to 75%, including extended deployments in operational field environments and possible active combat zones.

Salary: $120,000–$150,000 per year, plus potential equity and full-time employee benefits.

What you will do

• Monitor customer system performance and provide on-site and remote support for hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Diagnose failures through log analysis, system health checks, debugging, and root cause investigations.
• Support installations, upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and software validation in field environments.
• Troubleshoot IP networking, routing, firewalls, VPNs, connectivity, and system integrations.
• Work with engineering teams to resolve field software defects and improve system reliability.
• Document service activities, prepare field reports and work orders, and advise customers on system operation and maintenance.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience and a B.S. in computer science, engineering, robotics, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Linux command-line operations, system logs, and basic administration.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs, software troubleshooting, and log analysis.
• Experience diagnosing integrated hardware and software systems and integrating software on hardware products.
• Strong programming and software engineering skills in C++ or Python, including software design, unit testing, debugging, algorithms, and data structures.
• Ability to travel up to 75%, including internationally, and work in customer-facing operational field environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, distributed systems, or robotics software development.
• Knowledge of state machines, motion, path planning, perception pipelines, navigation, localization, or mapping algorithms.
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems and embedded programming.
