Director, PBM Contracting

Location: Remote

Salary: $148,000–$160,000 annually; compensation is determined by geographic location, experience, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Lead the drafting and negotiation of PBM services agreements, amendments, and statements of work from bids and initial drafts through execution.
• Structure financial and clinical terms, including financial guarantees, pricing conditions, reservation of rights, and performance guarantees.
• Manage redlines, tracked changes, exhibits, post-execution addenda, renewals, and the full contract lifecycle.
• Partner with sales, client success, underwriting, finance, clinical, operations, and legal to align contract terms with regulatory requirements, financial models, and operational capabilities.
• Act as a subject-matter expert for PBM contracting requirements in RFPs and RFIs and collaborate with client-side legal and procurement teams.
• Maintain contract templates, playbooks, clause libraries, obligation tracking, and risk escalation processes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in contracting, commercial legal, or contract management, including direct negotiation of PBM, health plan, or healthcare services agreements.
• Experience with a Contract Lifecycle Management tool and workflows involving tracked changes, redlines, and multi-party review.
• Strong knowledge of PBM economics and contract structures, including financial guarantees, pricing methodologies, performance guarantees, and audit rights.
• Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, organization, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to identify and escalate legal, financial, and regulatory risks while managing multiple negotiations under deadline pressure.
• Bachelor’s degree required.

Nice to have

• JD or paralegal background.
• Familiarity with ERISA, state pharmacy benefit regulations, or public-sector procurement and contracting requirements.
• Experience developing contract playbooks, clause libraries, or negotiation training materials.
• Experience using artificial intelligence tools for contract drafting and negotiation.
