Data Engineering Director - Hybrid

Location: Richfield, Ohio, USA; hybrid with on-site work at least three days per week and up to two remote days. Core in-office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

What you will do

• Lead Data Engineering team operations, staffing, performance, productivity, and continuous improvement.
• Set data strategy and execute engineering initiatives aligned with organizational goals, modernization, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee the design, development, and optimization of enterprise data pipelines, operational data stores, architectures, and data assets.
• Guide ETL/ELT implementation across batch, real-time, and event-driven data flows, including integration, storage, retrieval, and quality controls.
• Partner with business analysts, project managers, business-unit leaders, and C-suite stakeholders to convert business priorities into technical requirements and data roadmaps.
• Establish reusable data products, governance practices, data quality frameworks, lineage, audit logging, and stewardship programs across insurance domains.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 18 years of experience in data engineering or a related field, including at least 8 years of leadership experience.
• Expertise in data warehousing, ETL processes, data modeling, data architecture, and data governance.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
• Experience with Snowflake, IDMC, scalable data ecosystems, and enterprise reporting or advanced analytics capabilities.
• Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
• Experience with P&C insurance domains including underwriting, claims, operations, finance, or customer experience.
