TL;DR
Sr. Director, Medical Excellence & Operations (Biotech): Developing and leading the Medical Affairs operating model across governance, resourcing, medical initiatives, operational platforms, and capability advancement with an accent on compliant execution, budget discipline, and enterprise-scale readiness. Focus on coordinating cross-functional and alliance planning, overseeing congresses and medical education, optimizing vendors and operating budgets, and building a high-performing Medical Excellence organization.

Location: Remote, United States; the role is associated with Somerset, New Jersey, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $222,672–$292,258 USD base pay per year, plus performance-based bonus and/or equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

  • Define and execute the Medical Excellence & Operations strategy in alignment with Medical Affairs priorities and business objectives.
  • Advise the VP of Medical Affairs and Medical Affairs Leadership Team on operational insights, risk mitigation, and execution planning.
  • Coordinate Medical Affairs priorities with the Johnson & Johnson alliance across indications, launches, and product lifecycle milestones.
  • Establish governance, standardized processes, documentation, and oversight to support compliance, audits, and inspections.
  • Oversee medical congresses, education, sponsorships, operational platforms, budgets, vendors, procurement, and performance metrics.
  • Build, lead, and develop the Medical Excellence & Operations organization and succession pipeline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree or completed leadership training is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Medical Operations, or pharmaceutical/biotech leadership roles.
  • Experience building and scaling Medical Affairs operational capabilities in a highly regulated environment.
  • Senior leadership and influence across matrixed organizations, with a strong understanding of governance, compliance, and scientific engagement models.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, vendors, and operating plans.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, change leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
