TL;DR
Senior Propulsion Engineer, Engine Systems & Test (Rocket Engines): Developing and qualifying high-performance liquid-propellant rocket engines for the Terran R launch vehicle with an accent on engine architecture, CONOPS, interfaces, and requirements optimization. Focus on leading system-level trades, supporting analysis and simulation, coordinating technical teams, and solving complex engine development and test challenges.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; average 15% travel to test and launch sites, with occasional shifted schedules or weekend work for critical milestones.

Salary: $132,000–$198,000 USD per year, plus equity.

hirify.global is developing the Terran R launch vehicle, rockets, and manufacturing capabilities to deliver customer payloads to orbit.

What you will do

  • Drive engine system architecture and CONOPS trade studies.
  • Manage engine interfaces and negotiate requirements to optimize vehicle performance.
  • Support engine system development across design, production, qualification, and flight readiness.
  • Contribute to engine system analysis, simulation, testing, and engineering tool development.
  • Lead collaborative technical projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate across technical teams while applying deep system-level engineering expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in complex engineering system development or test environments.
  • Experience applying engineering fundamentals in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Working knowledge of liquid-propellant rocket engines.
  • Demonstrated ownership, problem-solving ability, collaboration, and delivery against ambitious schedules.

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of fluid components such as valves and instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of engine subsystems such as combustion devices and turbomachinery.
