Senior Staff Engineer, Flight Controls - X-BAT (Flight Controls)

Location: Dallas, Texas; on-site

Salary: $220,000–$340,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees.

What you will do

• Own the X-BAT flight control system across vertical takeoff, hover, transition, wing-borne flight, and precision recovery.
• Design control allocation strategies for actuator redundancy, saturation, and degraded operations.
• Develop high-fidelity 6DOF simulation environments and pre-flight performance predictions.
• Define and execute verification activities, including linear analysis, Monte Carlo campaigns, disturbance and degraded-operation testing, and HIL validation.
• Diagnose simulation-to-flight mismatches, support flight test operations, and drive rapid iteration between flights.
• Integrate controls with propulsion, aerodynamics, actuation, sensors, state estimation, and autonomy while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of flight controls or GNC experience on real flight vehicles, with ownership from design through flight test.
• Experience designing and implementing control allocation for over-actuated systems with saturation and failure accommodation.
• Strong knowledge of flight dynamics, 6DOF simulation, control theory, and nonlinear systems.
• Experience with full verification and validation cycles, Monte Carlo analysis, flight readiness assessment, and post-flight analysis.
• Proficiency in C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and/or Python, including deployment of real-time algorithms.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is required. A S//SAR-level clearance is desired.

Nice to have

• VTOL or transition-aircraft experience involving control blending and allocation.
• Autonomous systems or missile/UAV GNC experience.
• Experience with flight safety, airworthiness, mission assurance, fault-tolerant or adaptive control, and sensor or air-data systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, DevSecOps, HIL or integrated simulation environments, Linux, and Git.
• Experience in rapid development environments with tight simulation-to-test iteration loops.
