TL;DR
Modeling & Simulation Engineer (Missiles) (aerospace and defense simulation): Developing and validating dynamic and closed-loop simulations for guided weapons, interceptors, missiles, and related flight vehicles with an accent on 3-DOF and 6-DOF modeling, GNC integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Focus on implementing flight dynamics and environmental models, evaluating trajectory and engagement performance, conducting Monte Carlo and uncertainty analyses, and correlating simulations with flight-test data.

Location: Onsite in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year in base compensation, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops defense and aerospace products powered by Coherent Distributed Networks for warfighters, commercial air operators, and border protection teams.

What you will do

  • Develop, integrate, maintain, and validate 3-DOF and 6-DOF flight and engagement simulations for missiles, interceptors, and other guided flight vehicles.
  • Implement equations of motion, rigid-body dynamics, coordinate transformations, numerical integration, vehicle-state propagation, and environmental models.
  • Integrate models for aerodynamics, propulsion, mass properties, actuators, navigation sensors, seekers, targets, threats, staging, and separation events.
  • Integrate guidance, navigation, estimation, autopilot, control-law, seeker, tactical-software, embedded-flight-software, and hardware models into closed-loop, SIL, HITL, HWIL, and real-time simulations.
  • Evaluate trajectory and engagement performance, develop error budgets, and perform Monte Carlo, sensitivity, uncertainty, covariance, design-of-experiments, and robustness analyses.
  • Support requirements translation, test planning, preflight prediction, telemetry and flight-test analysis, postflight reconstruction, model correlation, software maintenance, documentation, and anomaly investigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated expertise in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer engineering, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Relevant experience in missile or flight-vehicle modeling and simulation, flight dynamics, GNC, trajectory analysis, weapon-system performance, or a related field, including hands-on 3-DOF or 6-DOF simulation experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in flight mechanics, rigid-body dynamics, coordinate systems and transformations, numerical integration, control or estimation, and dynamic-system analysis.
  • Strong programming ability in MATLAB, Python, or C++, plus experience with Monte Carlo, error-budget, sensitivity, robustness, uncertainty, or design-of-experiments analysis.
  • Experience validating or correlating dynamic models against analytical references, test data, telemetry, flight-test data, range data, or other authoritative sources.
  • Active Secret clearance required. Experience with Git, code review, automated testing, issue tracking, continuous integration, and reproducible workflows is also required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience with tactical or strategic missiles, ballistic systems, interceptors, cruise missiles, hypersonic vehicles, launch vehicles, or other advanced guided flight systems.
  • Experience with guidance laws, autopilots, control laws, state estimators, Kalman filters, multisensor navigation, trajectory optimization, or optimal control.
  • Experience with aerodynamic, propulsion, seeker, target-tracking, fire-control, fuzing, lethality, embedded-flight-software, or processor-representative models.
  • Active or eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits fully paid by the company.
  • 401(k) with a 50% company match up to 6% of pay, plus FSA, HSA, and life insurance.
  • Free daily lunch, no-meeting Fridays, unlimited PTO, and a casual dress code.
  • Relocation assistance, pre-IPO stock options, competitive base compensation, and planned annual bonuses.
  • Work with a growing organization of approximately 250 employees across five global offices.
