TL;DR
Principal Fuel Systems Engineer (X-BAT) (Aerospace Fuel Systems): Architecting, developing, and validating fuel systems for advanced AI-powered autonomous aircraft with an accent on long-endurance flight, center-of-gravity optimization, and certifiable performance in extreme conditions. Focus on system-level fluid and thermal analysis, cross-functional propulsion integration, supplier qualification, flight-test support, and hybrid-electric or alternative-fuel architectures.

Location: On-site or hybrid in Dallas, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; or San Diego, California. Remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates with up to 25% travel. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: $209,197–$313,795 per year, plus potential bonus, benefits, and equity.

What you will do

  • Architect end-to-end fuel systems covering storage, transfer, venting, and pressurization for autonomous aircraft.
  • Integrate fuel systems with propulsion, structures, avionics, and thermal systems.
  • Model and analyze flow behavior, vapor suppression, slosh dynamics, and thermal effects.
  • Define performance requirements, verification strategies, design reviews, trade studies, and risk assessments.
  • Lead supplier selection, component qualification, acceptance testing, and ground and flight-test support.
  • Mentor engineers, investigate system anomalies, and contribute to hybrid-electric and alternative-fuel technology roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 12–15+ years of experience in aircraft fuel systems, aerospace fluids, or propulsion integration.
  • Expertise in fuel-system design, analysis, certification, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and CFD for manned or unmanned aircraft.
  • Experience with ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, MATLAB/Simulink, and CAD tools such as NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks.
  • Technical leadership and mentoring experience in multidisciplinary teams, including familiarity with FAA and MIL-STD certification and validation testing.
  • U.S. citizenship required; remote candidates must be able to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing UAV, fighter, or ISR platforms.
  • Experience leading fuel-system programs from concept through flight testing.
  • Knowledge of low-observable fuel systems, vapor suppression, hybrid-electric integration, or advanced fuels.
  • Ability to obtain a S//SAR security clearance or an active or previous security clearance.
