Senior Designer (Book Design)

What you will do

• Design and typeset approximately 12–20 book projects simultaneously, managing publishing schedules and production deadlines.
• Develop long-form interiors from initial concepts through typesetting, proofreading, revisions, and final delivery.
• Create layouts for lifestyle, cookbook, children’s, gift, specialty, and nonfiction books, including complex 4-color projects.
• Retouch and color-correct photographs and illustrations, and create graphs, charts, and other visual elements when needed.
• Perform prepress work and prepare accurate, print-ready PDFs for production and printing partners.
• Track timelines, communicate progress, maintain documentation, organize assets, and troubleshoot design or production issues.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional experience designing and typesetting book interiors, preferably in publishing or a high-volume production environment.
• Professional experience with long-form book interiors and substantial 4-color production.
• Bachelor’s degree in Design or a related field, particularly interior book design and typography.
• Expert Macintosh skills and advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Knowledge of long-document production in InDesign, including paragraph, character, object, and GREP styles; Master Pages experience is desirable.
• An online portfolio showcasing relevant book interior design and typesetting work is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Master Pages in Adobe InDesign.
• Background in publishing or another high-volume production environment.
