People Operations Manager

Location: New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles, United States. Relocation support is provided. The role may require authorization to receive technology controlled under U.S. export-control laws without sponsorship for an export license.

Base salary: $100,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own onboarding from offer paperwork and I-9 verification through equipment, workspace setup, and the first week.
• Administer medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and leave programs, resolve claims issues, and run open enrollment with the broker.
• Own the HRIS and people data, produce headcount, attrition, and compensation reporting, and automate recurring work.
• Maintain handbooks, policies, and postings across New York, California, and future locations while partnering with counsel on employment matters.
• Manage employment-based visa and green card cases with outside immigration counsel, including H-1B and O-1 filings, transfers, extensions, and permanent residency.
• Drive performance evaluations by refining rubrics with team leaders and standardizing processes across teams.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in people operations or as an HR generalist, including experience at a company with fewer than 100 people where processes were built from the ground up.
• Direct ownership of payroll and benefits administration, including running payroll cycles and resolving operational issues.
• Experience implementing or meaningfully rebuilding a modern HRIS.
• Working knowledge of employment law and multi-state compliance, with judgment about when to involve legal counsel.
• Experience managing employment-based immigration cases alongside outside counsel.
• Ability to manage multiple operational workstreams, move quickly, and build scalable processes.
• Strong discretion when handling compensation data, medical information, and sensitive employee matters.
