TL;DR
Staff Mission Operations Engineer (Human Spaceflight): Developing training, testing, and mission operations systems for human-rated space stations with an accent on spacecraft operations, crew and flight-controller certification, and ground-system integration. Focus on leading real-time mission execution, analyzing vehicle telemetry, resolving anomalies, and preparing spacecraft and ground systems for safe flight operations.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. Travel up to 20% may be required, along with overtime or weekend work during critical mission milestones. Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export-control regulations.

Salary: $162,000–$230,000 USD per year.

hirify.global develops next-generation commercial space stations, including the multi-module Haven Station, to support human presence in space, microgravity research, manufacturing, and commercial and government customers.

What you will do

  • Develop and deliver training and human-in-the-loop testing programs for console flight controllers and astronaut crew members.
  • Improve Mission Operations, Training, human-in-the-loop testing, Mission Systems, Mission Operations Software, and ground-system processes.
  • Translate customer payload, science, and research requirements into balanced Concepts of Operations with Mission Management.
  • Develop spacecraft operations training programs and crew procedures with engineers across disciplines, including flight rules, hazards, and ground procedures.
  • Support pre-flight testing, readiness campaigns, spacecraft checkouts, commissioning, on-orbit operations, anomaly resolution, and deorbit activities.
  • Lead flight-control teams during real-time mission execution and analyze vehicle telemetry for mission stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience operating and training personnel on complex spaceflight systems, including on-console leadership as a flight, mission, or operations director.
  • Experience with human spaceflight mission operations, human-in-the-loop testing, and technical training development and delivery.
  • 3+ years in a spacecraft design, build, and test environment.
  • Technical knowledge of spacecraft systems, including avionics, propulsion, attitude control, communications, orbital mechanics, life support, thermal, and power systems.
  • Knowledge of space-to-ground communication systems, including RF, ground stations, modems, and antenna systems.
  • Software engineering, command-line, and scripting experience with technologies such as C++, Golang, JavaScript, React, MATLAB, Python/Octave, databases, cloud systems, and software architecture.
