TL;DR
Operations Engineer III, Mission Operations (Spacecraft/RPO): Planning, simulating, and executing live and simulated missions for RPO-class spacecraft with an accent on spacecraft procedures, telemetry monitoring, anomaly resolution, and orbit state determination. Focus on real-time mission execution, analyzing cooperative and uncooperative space vehicles, and shaping flight software and ground system capabilities.

Location: Onsite near Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

Base salary: $105,000–$170,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Plan, simulate, and execute spacecraft missions across all phases, including early-orbit operations and Rendezvous and Proximity Operations taskings.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve spacecraft operations procedures using knowledge of flight software, spacecraft hardware, and ground systems.
  • Monitor telemetry and spacecraft health in real time during mission operations.
  • Lead anomaly resolution planning and corrective actions in coordination with engineering teams.
  • Perform orbit state determination and behavior analysis for cooperative, non-cooperative, and uncooperative space vehicles.
  • Support vehicle development, integration, testing, and refinement of flight software and ground system capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of spacecraft operations experience, preferably with experience leading operators.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience translating mission requirements into executable procedures and system capabilities across engineering and operations teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, real-time mission environments with sound judgment and composure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligibility for a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance and authorization to meet U.S. ITAR requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or applicable Department of State authorization.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Space Domain Awareness, RPO missions, on-orbit servicing, inspection, or constellation management.
  • Knowledge of GNC concepts, relative navigation, maneuver planning, and safety zone management.
  • Experience with astrodynamics tools such as AGI STK or GMAT, flight procedures, ground systems, HIL/SIL testing, and anomaly investigation.
  • Scripting or programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or a similar language.
