Software Engineering Lead – Conversational Platforms

Location: Remote; listed locations include Cairo, Egypt; Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Belgrade, Serbia; and Istanbul, Turks and Caicos Islands.

What you will do

• Build and maintain production-facing conversational and messaging systems across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Push, and Email.
• Lead, mentor, and support the professional growth of an engineering team.
• Recruit and onboard engineering talent.
• Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to prioritize, plan, and schedule development work.
• Provide technical guidance on coding standards, best practices, and architectural principles.
• Communicate status, risks, and requirements while driving continuous learning and improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 5+ years building scalable enterprise-grade systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java or Python development and database management experience with systems such as MySQL or Cassandra.
• Experience building or integrating conversational and messaging systems, including bidirectional messaging, templates, webhooks, provider integrations, and high-volume delivery.
• Practical experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS, Memcached, Redis, AWS, Oracle Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communication skills is required.
• Ability to spend substantial time interfacing with offshore teams on a daily basis.

Nice to have

• Experience with Push and Email delivery platforms.
• Experience with Drone CI, SonarQube, Cucumber, wrk, Locust, or JMeter.
• Experience integrating with Meta and Apple messaging providers.
